As a freelance photographer, Michelle Daly-DeSchryver is lucky enough to travel frequently for her work. She is very passionate about exploring new places, and is constantly looking for opportunities that will take her around the world. However, traveling can get expensive, especially if you do it frequently. For those who travel often, it’s important to have a strategy that will help you enjoy your trips without breaking the bank. Here are some tips for traveling on a budget.
- Check airfare prices every day to find the best deals. Although flying is very expensive, you can find ways to do it affordably if you are diligent about searching for the best deals. Explore many different airlines, especially little-known or international ones, and be sure to take advantage of airfare sales.
- Instead of breaking the bank with a pricey hotel room, look for home or room rentals that are cheaper (and often more comfortable!) Sites like Airbnb and HomeAway allow you to rent other people’s properties or a room in their house, and prices are usually much cheaper than comparable hotels. An awesome bonus with this is that you get to meet interesting new people everywhere you go!
- If your schedule is wide open, travel off-season to get better deals. Head to warmer, tropical locales in the summer instead of over Christmas holidays, and if there’s snow available, check out ski destinations in the spring or late fall, when it won’t be as crowded.
